Special guests join Chicago-based, national charitable organization Gift of Adoption to host Gather for the Gift Event to raise funds to complete adoptions
CHICAGO – Gift of Adoption, a volunteer-driven charity that raises funds to provide adoption assistance grants to complete the adoptions of vulnerable children, is hosting its signature event, Gather for the Gift, on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at The Standard Club in Chicago. The event will raise funds to help Gift of Adoption reach its goal of uniting 255 children with the gift of family in 2016. Former NFL coach and adoptive father Tony Dungy, and Jockey International, Inc. Chairman and CEO and Founder of Jockey Being Family Debra S. Waller will join Gift of Adoption at the event to help raise awareness and make more adoptions possible for children in need.
“We believe having a family is the basic right of children everywhere,” said Gift of Adoption board member Glen Mangold. “Putting at-risk children into permanent, loving families not only gives them love and nurturing care, but it also provides a long-term solution for at-risk children and future social services and government assistance needs. This is a win on both a humanitarian and economic level.”
Gift of adoption places the highest priority on providing grants for adoptions that expedite the adoption of children with special needs, preserve families through relative and biological sibling adoptions and prevent children from unnecessarily entering foster care.
Tony Dungy, a father of ten including seven adopted children, will serve as the keynote speaker at the Gather for the Gift Event. Special guest Debra S. Waller, a passionate adoption advocate who was adopted as an infant, will join Dungy in sharing the impact adoption can have on the life of a child. To help welcome the 350 guests, the event will also feature Kathy Hart, an adoptive mother and co-host of the “Eric and Kathy Morning Show” on 101.9 THE MIX, as the event emcee. Together, Dungy, Waller and Hart will join Gift of Adoption in helping to inspire guests to make an investment in the lives of parentless children.
“I am honored to be a part of such a special event as I’ve been blessed to grow my own family through adoption,” said Dungy. “There is such a great need right here in our own country to find homes for children and through Gift of Adoption, everyone has the chance to do something about it.”
“Gift of Adoption provides adoption assistance – giving vulnerable children who need families a permanent home,” said Debra S. Waller, chairman and CEO of Jockey International, Inc. and founder of Jockey Being Family. “As an adoptee myself, I feel privileged to be included in such a special event and associated with such a fine organization. This is an opportunity to make a difference.”
Gift of Adoption awards grants of up to $7,500 to provide families – regardless of race, religion, age or marital status – the financial support needed to bring their children home. Since 1996, Gift of Adoption has awarded more than $5 million in grants to unite more than 1,700 children with permanent families.
