Maya Rogers-Bursen, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Registered Art Therapist (ART) will lead a discussion about the unique issues present in raising adopted children.

While all children, adopted or not, have the same needs for a safe, nurturing home and loving, supportive family, parenting adopted children is also a special and unique experience that often comes with its own challenges and rewards. Whether children come into your life as infants or much older, domestically or internationally, privately or through the foster care system, adoption is a lifelong process. Adopted people are shaped by their adoption story, and it is something that will always be a part of your child’s life. In many adoption situations, that means there are some important factors to take into consideration as you parent your child.

Ms. Rogers-Bursen, LMHC, ART, will share her experience with pre- and post-adoption parents her experience and expertise as both an adoptee and an adoption support counselor, offering her perspective and insights to help parents navigate their relationship with their adopted children in a compassionate and open way.

This session is ideal for parents who are considering adoption as well as currently adoptive parents. This session will run approximately 45 minutes with approximately 15 minutes for Q&A.
