Alabama Chapter

About Us

Welcome to the Home Page of the Gift of Adoption of Alabama.

As of June 2019, Gift of Adoption Alabama has awarded $124,000 in adoption assistance grants across Alabama to complete the adoptions of 40 children.

Chapter Goal

Each year, Gift of Adoption Alabama receives requests from approximately 15 qualified families – representing a funding need of $59,000. The goal of the Alabama Chapter’s all-volunteer board is to raise enough funds to help complete each of these adoptions. 100% of the money raised by the chapter is directed to uniting children with forever families in the area.

The chapter is currently seeking leaders throughout Alabama to get involved as chapter leaders and help the chapter grow and reach more families.

Board members are responsible for building awareness and raising funds for this rapidly growing, energetic, national, nonprofit dedicated to putting adoption in reach for the millions of children world-wide without a family. Gift of Adoption inspires adoption by providing grants to qualified parents – giving children without families permanent homes and the chance to thrive.

Board members can be located anywhere in the state, but must be willing to participate in monthly calls and quarterly in-person meetings to support the development of a strong state presence – as we create awareness of this new philanthropic category and resource our vision.

If you would like to work with smart, dedicated people who believe that a loving family is a basic right for children everywhere, contact Pam Devereux, CEO.

Gift of Adoption Fund - Alabama Chapter

Get to Know Our Board - Sherri SpikesSherri Spikes - Board Memeber

Hometown: Teague, TX

Profession: Sales Director

To me gift of adoption is: Very needed and most people are unaware of our ability to help families with the cost involved in the adoption process. It truly is a "gift"!

What attracted you to your board position with GOA: I was adopted as an infant as was my middle sister. We are so lucky to have been raised by two wonderful parents. We didn't have a lot of money - but we sure had a lot of love!

Impact you would like to have on GOA: All children deserve a loving family like my sister and I had - my desire is to get the word out that 1) help with adoption costs is available 2) educate people regarding the negative effect the foster care system has on many children and 3) raise funds to support those families who, like my parents, may not have a lot of money; but who have an abundance of love to raise a child.

Family: Unfortunately, I was not able to have children and I am divorced. I am very close to my two sisters - Vicky Bracamonte and Sheila Guthrie as well as my nieces, nephews and now, their children as well.

Favorite Family Tradition: Watching old home movies

Most Meaningful accomplishment: Raising three step children, one with downs syndrome, and loving them as my own.

First Job: Clerk in a baby clothes store

Personal Hero: My mom

Last Book Read: Your Best Destiny: Becoming the Person You were Created to Be

Favorite Pastime: Snorkeling, Cycling

Person you would most like to meet: Wintley Phipps

What is your Motto: "Life is what you make it.”

Fast Fact Friday

Gift of Adoption prioritizes grants for the most vulnerable children facing what is possibly their last or only chance at adoption. This includes families who are working to unite or keep siblings together and those adopting children with critical medical conditions or kids aging out of orphanages.
