Spreading Hope While Staying Home

The COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting lives across the globe. It’s also disrupting adoptions, leaving many vulnerable children and adoptive families stuck in a state of limbo.

Guo Guo’s family, Eric and Jeanne were supposed to travel from Washington State to finalize her adoption in China in March. Travel restrictions currently in place are delaying her adoption process.

Today, we’re asking Gift of Adoption supporters to help us send an uplifting, reassuring message to children waiting to unite with their forever families.

Gift of Adoption is providing grants to make sure that financial obstacles don’t prevent or delay adoptions for at-risk children during the pandemic. We’re working extra hard to help children join loving families during this time of global uncertainty.

Will you help us send a note of hope to the children and families waiting to be united through the gift that is adoption?

We’ll be passing along these messages to Gift of Adoption grant recipients whose adoption processes are being impacted, in one way or another, by the pandemic.

  • Step 1: Make your message! Your message can take any form — whether you want to record a video, write a note sing a song, craft a poem or make a painting, the only limit is your own creativity.
  • Step 2: Share it Far and Wide. Take your finished message and share it to your social media platforms of choice: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn are some of our favorites. Be sure to tag Gift of Adoption and use the hashtag #GoAdoption.
  • Step 3: Tell your friends! Sharing an uplifting message with a vulnerable child through social media is a great way to make a real difference while practicing safe social distancing. Encourage your loved ones to get in on the fun — consider, for instance, ways that you could work together to craft a message, like remotely collaborating on a video note.

We’ll be sharing some of our favorite messages and the responses they receive from families and children on our social media channels throughout the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We’re counting on our supporters to help us reassure children and their families that the Gift of Adoption community is here to continue supporting them, no matter what.
