Gift of Adoption Partners with John’s Crazy Socks To Promote Adoption Awareness
Family-owned business launches adoption socks, portion of proceeds donated to nonprofit helping children in vulnerable circumstances find permanent homes
Northbrook, Ill., June 17, 2023 – Gift of Adoption today announced its partnership with John’s Crazy Socks, the world’s largest sock store, to launch a new, adoption-inspired sock design. The socks will help the mission-driven organizations spread awareness of the importance of adoption, and 10% of each sale will be donated to the Gift of Adoption fund.
While a reported one-third of Americans have considered adoption, fewer than 4% complete the process- with many citing the high expense as a barrier. Gift of Adoption provides grants to help complete adoptions of children facing what might be their only chance at adoption, such as those at risk of separation from siblings, entering foster care, aging out of a care system or with medical needs. This cause is one that aligns with John’s Crazy Socks founding mission – showing what is possible when you give someone a chance.
“Making our Adoption Awareness Socks makes me so happy,” said Co-founder and Chief Happiness Officer of John’s Crazy Socks John Cronin. “They celebrate the love of parents bringing a new child into their family.”
Earlier this year, Gift of Adoption celebrated an organizational milestone of helping to unite 5,000 children with their forever families since its founding in 1996. The partnership with John’s Crazy Socks will enable the organization to continue building on that work and momentum in the coming months and years.
“Though 5,000 lives have been forever changed through the love, stability and protection of family, we know more children wait,” says Gift of Adoption CEO Pam Devereux, “We are proud to partner with John’s Crazy Socks to unite more children living in vulnerable circumstances with their permanent families, giving them every opportunity to thrive.”
To launch the new sock, John’s Crazy Socks co-founders John and Mark Cronin will personally deliver pairs of the new Adoption Awareness Crew Socks to Justin van Fleet and Fabian Bernal who brought their son Oliver home five months ago with the help of a Gift of Adoption grant. Justin and Fabian planned meticulously to start their family through adoption but were met with unexpected travel and medical expenses. The Gift of Adoption grant covered the final expenses to bring Oliver home to Bellport, NY in March. The socks will be presented to the family on June 17, the day before Justin and Fabian celebrate their first Fathers’ Day.
“The Gift of Adoption grant helped us adopt Oliver with the confidence that we can provide the best for him. We are determined to provide Oliver with the best possible set of resources and support to thrive in his new home,” says Justin.
