Clarkston News: Adoption awareness walk

Charitable organization Gift of Adoption, a volunteer-driven charity that provides financial assistance to complete adoption, hosts a one-mile walk through Independence Oaks County Park to represent the final mile in a child’s adoption journey, 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 6.
The group of adoptees, adoptive parents and volunteers will take the walk to help raise awareness and funds, followed by a community celebration.
During November, National Adoption Awareness Month, Gift of Adoption will award about $100,000 in adoption assistance grants to help make adoptions possible for up to 30 children in need and host adoption awareness events in the Detroit area and across the country.
The Gift of Adoption charity awards grants of up to $7,500 to help fund adoptions for children in the Detroit area and nationwide. Average costs for adoption is up to $38,000 for domestic and $42,000 for international adoptions in 2015.
There are more than 153 million orphans in the world with 415,000 children in the U.S. alone living without permanent families.
