Adoption Assistance Grants | Application Review Process

Upon receipt of your application packet, you will receive an email confirming receipt of your adoption grant application packet. If any information is missing you will be notified of that as well.

Adoption assistance grant applications are reviewed monthly.

Adoption Grant Selection Committee

All applications will be reviewed by the Grant Selection Committee. Every effort will be made to present your application to the committee at the time most favorable for your particular situation.

You will be notified via email when your application will be presented to the committee, you will be given the opportunity to update your application prior to review.

Adoption Grant Decision Process

The Grant Selection Committee, made up of one elected representative from each regional chapter, will review your application and either: approve it for a grant, decline to award a grant, or recommend a local Gift of Adoption Chapter approve your application for a grant.

You will be notified of the decision via email within 48 hours of the Grant Selection Committee meeting.

If You are Approved for an Adoption Assistance Grant

If your application is approved by the Grant Selection Committee it is possible it may be advanced to the regional chapter for a final funding decision. If this is the case, you will receive an email alerting you of this decision within 48 hours of the National Grant Selection Committee meeting.

At this time, you will also be invited to provide any additional information you would like the local chapter board to consider in making their decision.

You will receive notification via email of the regional chapter’s decision within two weeks of the Grant Selection Committee meeting.

You will receive an email from the Director of Grants providing information on what you will need to do to get your adoption assistance grant award disbursed.

If Your Adoption Grant Application is Declined

If your application is declined, you will be provided an email that will detail the reason(s) why.

We receive many more applications each month than we have funding to support. It is not uncommon for a denial reason to be, quite simply, we do not have enough funds to award every grant that meets our funding criteria.

Please do not lose heart, your application fee entitles you to have your case presented to the committee up to three times, as long as the adoption is not yet finalized and there remains an outstanding balance related to your adoption expenses.

If your situation changes materially after receiving notification that your application was declined, we encourage you to notify us so that we can present it to the Grant Selection Committee again at a future date.
