Adoption Success Story: Alex
Alex, 15 years old, lived in an orphanage for special needs children in Ukraine, where he was diagnosed with autism. Scott and Ellen, of Concord, North Carolina, hosted Alex for four weeks in December and decided to adopt him.
Scott and Ellen were concerned about Alex’s treatment in the special needs orphanage after he told them “It is better not to live than to live where I live” when returning to Ukraine after his visit. This, in addition to suspicions that his autism diagnosis was incorrect, made Scott and Ellen more determined to bring Alex home in summer 2019. A $3,500 grant from the Gift of Adoption helped them to complete Alex’s adoption process and pay off some of their debt.
Adoption will save Alex’s life, said Scott.
