Adoption Success Story: Tessa
Sarah adopted Tessa, age 2-and-a-half, from China and describes her as a strong, determined, sweet, silly girl. Tessa has cerebral palsy and “was in an orphanage prior to being adopted. She was in a smaller facility where she was very well loved, and received daily physical therapy to assist with the effect of her cerebral palsy,” says Sarah.
Knowing Tessa will succeed with the proper therapies, Sarah believes that “adoption radically affects Tessa’s long-term prospects. She can receive significantly more physical therapy, as well as the necessary occupational and speech therapy that were not provided previously. The doctors who have reviewed her medical records all believe she has a lot of promise, and we will make the most of all the opportunities she will have in her new life here.”
Sarah is excited that Tessa is already forming an attachment with her. She says that “receiving this grant allows me to pay off part of my debt accumulated during the tail end of this process and allows me to use my income to seek out the proper resources for Tessa’s health and cognitive development.”
